Fairgrounds Speedway Pre-Qualifying Notes

• Simon Yates spins and makes hard contact in between turns 1 and 2. Yates was able to drive his car back to the pits, but it is unclear at this time if his crew will be able to make repairs to the car.
  
• Mark Day has had a problem with his car and come to a stop in turn 4. Day got out and looked under the left front as though he suspected a problem with the brakes. His car has been towed to the pit area.
  
• 5/8s Practice has been delayed by seepage in turn 4; however, it doesn't appear to be a significant problem as Sportsman practice is about to begin.
  
• Crews worked all morning to get the track dry so racing can go on as scheduled.

• Late Model competitor Dakota Stroup will be making his first start of the season tonight.

Diamond Ring Giveaway at Fairgrounds Speedway

Racing resumes at the Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville on Saturday, May 9, with Carl Black Chevrolet, WSIX and Big Machine Records teaming up to host Team 98 Night. 2008 rookie-of-the-year Bobby Buttrey will be piloting the #98 Chevy Super Truck with Carl Black Chevrolet donating 98-cents for every lap completed and $500 for each victory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Buttrey opened up his 2009 crusade with a bang by taking home the season-opener win and following up the very next week with a door-to-door battle with winner Daniel Bolden for second-place honors. Buttrey is the current point's leader in the Super Trucks class with visions of a team championship when the 2009 season wraps up in late September.

Fans can stop by Carl Black Chevrolet to pick up free tickets for a night of family fun and heart-stopping racing under the lights at the Fairgrounds Speedway.

In honor of Mother's Day weekend the track will be giving away a half-carat diamond ring to one lucky lady in the grandstands.

CRA Weekend Washout

While rain storms and race cars do not mix, Mother Nature flexed her muscle this past weekend as track officials and the Champion Racing Association Series (CRA) were forced to cancel all track activities at the Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville.

The CRA race with NASCAR star Kyle Busch was one of the biggest casualties of the soggy weekend. Busch was set to fly to Nashville on Sunday morning to shoot for an unprecedented four victories in four consecutive days. The ambitious driver not only swept through the NASCAR races at Richmond International Raceway with ease, he also thrilled the local Virginia fans at Southside Speedway on Thursday night by grabbing a win in the 175-lap Late Models.

With the Nashville track personnel, media and fans all being set up to witness Busch aim for a personal record in racing, the dark clouds overtook any silver lining with the weekend deemed a total washout.

"We really hate it for the fans and this facility that we couldn't race this past weekend, but those kinds of things are not in our control. It's a real shame though because it had all the makings of a great spectacle for the fans and this track. We're looking for a date to reschedule so hopefully it will all work out in the end," said track promoter Danny Denson.

The Fairgrounds Speedway will resume weekly short track racing at its best this coming weekend, May 9^th as the local rivalries continue to go door-to-door on the .596 mile asphalt oval in nine separate divisions.

As a salute to Mother's Day the Fairgrounds Speedway will be giving away a half-carat diamond ring this Saturday night to one lucky ticket holder.

• Caution Lap 18- Chevy White spins Andy Johnson battling for 2nd. White is being sent to the back.
• Caution Lap 18- Andy Johnson spins in turn 2 and noses into the wall. His crew is attempting to fix the damage.
• At halfway, Day leads Sterling Marlin, TW Fisher, and Joseph Meyer.
• Johnson has retired from the race due to damage sustained in the crash.

• At the finish, Daniel Bolden holds off Bobby Buttrey by only a few feet in a photo finish. Buttrey hounded Bolden for the final 10 laps.

Fairgrounds Speedway Pre-Qualifying Notes

The #55 Late Model of Austin McClain and #09 Supertruck of Daniel Bolden, both damaged in heavy crashes last week, are repaired and both look as good as new. Both drivers expect to be competitive in tonight's action.

During practice, the #23 Late Model of Simon Yates spun in the middle of Turns 3 and 4. Yates' car suffered minor left rear damage. Yates' crew was able to repair the car in time for the second Late Model practice.
